The American City Business Journal announced their list of the 100 best public colleges in the nation. And guess what? Two of the best public universities in the country are found here in Arizona.

For the fourth consecutive year, the American City Business Journals — parent company of the Phoenix Business Journal — compiled a ranking of nearly 500 public universities and colleges.

The rankings, compiled by our sister publication Buffalo Business First, were created four years ago to look at the schools that offer the most affordable path toward a bachelor’s degree across the U.S.

Arizona State University and University of Arizona made the cut with ASU coming in at No. 63 and UA landing at No. 95. Both universities dropped a bit in rankings from the previous year. Northern Arizona University also ranked, climbing to No. 208 from No. 222 in 2017.

Regionally, ASU ranked No. 12 among universities and colleges in the West. UA was No. 21 on the regional list. NAU was No. 40.

The University of Michigan topped the overall list, followed by University of North Carolina coming in at number two.

The rankings were created by analyzing a vast range of data for 499 public colleges across the country, using a 22-part formula to generate the rankings.
