Amazon.com Fast Becoming One of Arizona’s Largest Employers

Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) now has more than 7,500 full-time workers in Arizona.

That number, according to a company spokesperson, is up from 6,000 Amazon workers company officials said were employed in the state just a few months ago. The e-commerce giant continues to expand its operations and headcount in the Phoenix region.

Amazon has job openings at its Tempe technology and operations center for software development engineers, transportation analysts and account support specialists who speak Mandarin and Portuguese.

Amazon’s current 7,500-person headcount puts it ahead of the likes of American Express (NYSE: AXP), which has more than 7,300 workers in the region, the Mayo Clinic (6,800 workers) and Pinnacle West Capital Corp. (NYSE: PNW) (6,300). The latter is the parent company of Arizona Public Service Co., the state’s largest electric utility.

Seattle-based Amazon has fulfillment centers in Goodyear, Phoenix and Chandler and has a technology center in Tempe.
